New Thing

This week's new thing was Pilates which I managed to talk my friend Karen in to go to with me. It was ok. Better than yoga in that I could feel my core muscles aching when all was said and done but feel like my limbs got nothing! Karen and I both decided it would be a great class if we did half an hour on the elliptical first. Now I know.

A Few Too Many

A few too many kids were at my house yesterday so today I am going to work to have a day off from my day off! My friend Lori is in California for two weeks finishing some schooling so her husband, our church's youth pastor, could use some help. They have kids the same as Tori and Tristan and so they came over. Then another friend who is a recent transplant from Arizona had an MRI scheduled and was going to drag her kids with her so I said drop them off. Two more - so 6 kids and the dog ran and full speed all morning. Then it was off to Future Flipz for playtime. The 6 kids was not so much an issue at home but trying to load that many up to go somewhere was just dumb. After Future Flipz we did drive thru frosties and home to play until they all got picked up.

God gave me two because thats how many I can handle!

Washington, D.C.

4 days + moms 50th birthday = all girls weekend in DC.

Tampa International

First stop: the Lincoln Memorial. From the platform we took this picture of Washington Monument and the reflecting pool.

Taylor and I with Honest Abe.
Mom and I in front of the Jefferson Memorial, a very long walk around the Potomac Basin.

We took this picture on Friday morning BUT we did not actually do the tour until Saturday. You were basically allowed nothing inside the white house except your id and some cash - no cameras, cell phones, etc. It was really neat to see the inside.
Taylor and I, in our accidently and nearly identical outfits, outside Union Station.
So that my computer does not fry and you brain does not go numb I am only posting those pics of the 140 I took! But when I say we covered alot of ground I mean alot. We saw the Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington, WWII, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Vietnam, Navy, and 56 Signers of the Consitution Memorials. We also saw the Museum of Natural History, American History, Air and Space. We saw a tiny bit of the Art Museum. We went to the Holocaust Museum. We went to the Archives and saw the Magna Carta, Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights. We did the capital building tour, white house tour, and looked at the Library of Conress. We went to the top of the Old Post Office tower. We listened to the story of Lincoln's assasination inside the Ford Theater. We went to Arlington where we saw Taylor's grandfathers grave, JFK's grave, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the changing of the guard, Robert E. Lee's house now known as Arlington House, and the Civil War unknown soldiers tomb. We took taxis and rode the metro. We went to Georgetown, Chinatown and Union Station. We found the buildings that house the US Treasury, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, FBI and the Department of Justice. And we had a great time!

Funny

Went to Busch Gardens today before I take off for the weekend, wanted a fun day with the kids. So we go on the water rides because its a zillion degrees with 120% humidity. And my shorts are too new - they have been washed half dozen times - and they still drip blue...all the way down my legs. Nice.

Also funny ... on the way home the kids told me how they would make sure that daddy kept the house clean while I was gone...Tristan says "Don't worry mom when you come back we'll have the house spick and spack." Good to know, Tristan, good to know.

Too Young to Feel so Old

Last night I went to a "Girls Night Out" that was as lame as lame can be. We went to to dinner and that was nice, good conversation, etc but then everyone wanted to get home - to help get their kids in to bed, bc they're husband wanted to go out with some friends later, or they had a long day and wanted to go to bed early. Um ok. We are in our 20's people!!!! I should be able to hang out with my girlfriends and not turn into a pumpkin at 8:30 right?

I know that I got married very young, had kids very young. And those were decisions I made. So maybe everyone else got the going out with their girlfriends out of their systems early on but I really crave that "me time" and someone or someones to go see chick flicks with or try a new restaurant with (Todd doesn't work for that bc hes too picky) or get a couple of drinks. I feel like those women that also feel like that also have to be out there and I dont know how to find them.

Sorry for the vent...

192 hours

That's how many hours from now it will be until I am on that plane and taking a break from chores and swim practices/meets and playdates and laundry and work. I cannot wait.

For those of you that don't know on the 16th I am headed to DC with my mom and sister in law, Taylor. We are going for my mom's 50th birthday.

Week 3: New Thing(s)

I actually did/am doing two new things this week!

1 - yoga. I am not totally sold but I am not against it either. I feel stretched out but I still (have done this before a long time ago) feel like going to the gym should leave a person (a)sore (b)sweating or (c)knowing they burnt a bunch of calories. Yoga, at least Yoga I, does not leave me a,b or c. Stretched out yes, relaxed kind of. But I'll go back, keep it up for a couple of weeks, work up to a harder class and see if I see results.

2 - spanish class. Tonight my friend Di and I start Conversational Spanish I at SPC. Its a "life long learning" class that is not for credit nor grade. So it should be relaxing and I would really like to learn enough to communicate very basically with my patients - ask names, birthdays, if they need food/drink, or any other basic need type of thing.

Oh yeah and I got new blog decorations. The sheer amounts of rain recently made me feel the need to brighten up silly things in my life - wardrobe, blog, purse, etc.

Happy 4th of July

The rain finally stopped and we had a nice lunch followed by a lazy day at home. Then we packed a picnic and the camp chairs and headed to the Safety Harbor Marina for fireworks with our friends Travis and Christie and their little boy Landon! Lots of fun!

Back in sunny FL?

Wait no I seemed to have left the sunshine in IN? How can that be?

Day off, pouring rain, and the kids built a fort and made a dozen art projects yesterday. I am thinking its baking day...sigh.
